What is fat? There are many definitions and scientific explanations for fat. Simply put, fat is an essential part of our diet that are classified as macro nutrients, which include proteins and carbohydrates. These are essential as they are a food source and provide a means of storing energy for later use. They are classified as macro nutrients as they can store huge amounts of nutrients to sustain life.

Broadly, fats are classified into two subgroups – saturated and unsaturated. Saturated fats are the undesirable fats for the human body that have high cholesterol content and are highly insoluble in water. Over time, this causes build-up of different parts of the body by deposits (thereby resulting in “disfiguring of body shape”), reducing the internal “pipelines” (arteries and veins) leading to and from the heart thereby obstructing the smooth flow of blood and more. If unchecked, these can lead to high blood pressure or heart attacks (cardiac arrests), which can be fatal.

Unsaturated fats are the more desirable fats which are more water soluble. These are generally found in plant oils, especially avocado, peanuts, flaxseed, and olives. Fish oils have omega 3, which is considered good for health. These are the actual transporters of vitamins, nutrients, and other food sources within the body. On the way, they even attempt to break down the accumulated cholesterol, however, only to a certain extent. Now that we know about the different types of fat and its importance in the body, we will focus on reducing the amount of saturated fat in the body with the help of a customized diet plan and a workout regime.
